Computer-related stuff I’ve found interesting or helpful

BayStateHost  Ever think you might like to have your own website?  Are you dis-satisfied with your present web hosting company?  Visit BayStateHost.

BgInfo  How many times have you walked up to a system in your office and needed to click through several diagnostic windows to remind yourself of important aspects of its configuration, such as its name, IP address, or operating system version?  If you manage multiple computers you probably need BGInfo By Bryce Cogswell.

Gibson Research  Lots of good information here.  Steve Gibson has done a lot of work in the area of computer and internet security, as well as on several useful utilities for troubleshooting and maintaining your computers.

Internet Connection Speed  Do you know how fast your connection to the Internet really is?  Wanna find out?  Click the link.

I’ll bet you think you are using a pretty good password(s) to protect your stuff.  Are you sure?  Click the link for a humorous and enlightening look at passwords.

The Tao of Backup  Did you backup your files today?  Visit The Tao of Backup and find out everything you need to know to protect your valuable data.  After you visit this one, you’ll wonder how you’ve been so lucky NOT to have lost your computer’s data.  You DID back-up your files today, didn’t you?  Oh.  Better visit the Tao right away.

TeamViewer  Did you ever need something from your home computer while you were away from home?  TeamViewer is a free (for private or non-commercial use) remote control software package.  With TeamViewer, you can login to a remote machine and control it with your local mouse and keyboard, just like you would if you were sitting in front of that computer.  In fact, you can control your Mac from your PC, your PC from your Mac, or either one from your smartphone or tablet!  You can even transfer files back and forth.  Did I mention it’s free?

W3 Schools  At W3Schools you will find all the Web-building tutorials you need, from basic HTML and XHTML to advanced XML, XSL, Multimedia and WAP.

These are a few of my favorite computer/Internet-related websites.  Some of them may be helpful, others simply entertaining.  I’ll add to the list from time-to-time, so come back and visit again.  You never know what you’ll find.  If you should run across any “broken” links, please let me know, and I’ll try to fix ’em.  If you have a favorite you think I should include, let me know about that, too.

If the only prayer you said in your whole life was, “thank you”,
that would suffice.  ~Meister Eckhart
